PRP SCIENCE
The science behind your injector’s PRP system and why it matters!
Did you know that the specific gravity of platelets overlaps with red blood cells (RBCs)?
This study shows that about 65% of platelets may reside in the RBC layer after centrifugation: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10669393/
When we consider this fact, one can understand why it’s important to aspirate the top layer of the RBC layer after the patient’s blood has been spun in the centrifuge in order to recover a majority of platelets.
This is why separator-gel based PRP Kits are generally ineffective, as they trap 100% of RBC’s (and thus a majority of platelets) beneath the gel. It’s worth noting that many of these separator-gel based PRP Kit companies will claim to have high platelet recovery rates – but they almost never have a peer-reviewed study to back up their claims.
Here is a peer-reviewed study that demonstrates that the PRO harvesting system used at SKINVITAL has over a 90% platelet recovery rate: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33543595/
The more platelets, the greater the chance of achieving the desired results. It is important to note that there is currently no standardized protocol for PRP preparation or use. Advances in this field are ongoing and promising. At SKINVITAL we are in the front seat of this exciting topic and eagerly await the science as it comes! We pride ourselves in ensuring our clients have access to top tier technology when it comes to their PRP.
